OUR HISTORY

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, as entertainment thrived and Long Beach developed homes and industry, Black Americans from the South worked at the hotels lining the boardwalk or worked as domestic servants. It is important to note that many Blacks lived in the homes where they worked, but a small population began to rent and buy homes, many of which were converted garages, in what is now referred to as North Park, the area north of Park Avenue roughly between Magnolia Boulevard and Long Beach Boulevard.
